The CAAV, CLA, NFU, TFA, FWAG, GWCT, The Wildlife Trusts, RSPB and the National Trust have jointly written to the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, The Right Hon. Michael Gove MP, requesting some certainty for agri-environment scheme agreement holders that they will not be placed at a disadavantage when new schemes are introduced post-Brexit. The new Electronic Communications Code is to take effect from 28th December 2017, Government has confirmed. The Commencement Order which will bring the Code into effect is expected to be published later today (15th December).

DEFRA has confirmed that £200 million will be made available for schemes under the Rural Development Programme. MPs voted this afternoon on Prime Minister Theresa May's motion for a general election to be held on 8th June 2017. It has been approved by 522 votes to 13, so will go ahead.
Prime Minister Theresa May will move a motion in the House of Commons tomorrow (19th April) calling for a general election on 8th June 2017. Under the Fixed-term Parliaments Act, any decision to call a general election must be voted on by the House of Commons. To go ahead, it will require a two-thirds majority vote.
