Job Description:

A new and exciting opportunity for a dynamic Estate Manager to join Thorpe Estate, to spearhead a placemaking strategy across a concentrated portfolio of residential, commercial, and agricultural holdings.

Thorpe Estate comprises approximately 3000 acres and has been in the ownership of the same family since 1631. The Estate is in the early stages of an exciting diversification strategy, with a hugely successful wedding and events venue, a 21-bedroom boutique hotel, and a renewable energy plant, all concentrated round the Grade II listed Thorpe Hall and Home Farm, a complex of stunning heritage properties developed in the 1850’s.

Located on the border of four counties, in the heart of the Midlands, with a population catchment of over 5.7 million people within 1 hour of travel, The Estate is brimming with potential for growth and innovation. Trains to Birmingham are under 20 minutes, and London 1 hr 30 minutes. Nottingham, Derby, Leicester, Loughborough, and Coventry are all within commuting distance.

Reporting to the Estate owner, and overseeing a small and dedicated in-house team, the role will involve day to day responsibility for the management of the Estate as well as driving forward its strategic direction.

The candidate

We are looking for an individual who is modern and innovative in approach, looking to make their mark on a forward-looking Estate, with the following attributes:

  • MRICS qualified (ideally) with a proven track record and experience in the management of rural estates with commercial activities.
  • An engaging and personable character with strong leadership qualities. Confident in managing and liaising with employees, tenants and key community stakeholders including local authorities.
  • Commercially and financially astute, with a keen eye for both maximising revenue opportunities and day-to-day operational effectiveness.
  • Motivated and inspired to make a positive impact on the local environment and community.
  • Able to explore, scope out and deliver key projects to budget in a timely manner alongside other demands.
  • Experience/knowledge in the operation and development of a customer facing business in the leisure sector an advantage.
