Compton Estates - Northamptonshire - Assistant Land Agent

(Newly Qualified MRICS – 2 Years PQE)

A full time Assistant Land Agent is required to work as part of the Estate Management team, providing comprehensive property management of Compton Estates’ properties in Northamptonshire at Castle Ashby and in Warwickshire at Compton Wynyates.

The two Estates total 14,000 acres and comprise agricultural, commercial and residential properties as well as woodland, sporting rights, mineral extraction, a village district heating scheme and a prospective solar farm.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

The position will encompass a broad range of work and this person will largely be working directly for the Estate Manager on all aspects of the Estate. The following list is not exhaustive but responsibilities will include:-

  • Assist with the letting and management of a wide range of properties, with a focus on the management of the agricultural portfolio
  • Negotiate leases, licences, wayleaves & easements, ensuring optimum rental returns
  • Undertake lease renewals, rent reviews and assist with the management of rental arrears
  • Assist with pursuing development opportunities including minerals, solar and housing
  • Assist with periodic valuation work for internal purposes
  • Assist with preparing and delivering Estate budgets
  • Work with the Estate insurance brokers to ensure comprehensive insurance cover and carry out insurance revaluation work as required
  • Assist with other general Estate Management work, including rights of way, utilities, land registration, restrictive covenants etc
  • Instruct, monitor and manage general maintenance work on the Estate
  • Consider and implement environmental and other relevant land management schemes as appropriate
  • Ensure compliance in all aspects of the business and maintain accurate records, including the Estate’s mapping system
  • Liaise with other professionals and consultants as required on legal or planning matters
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with the local community

Requirements, Skills and Attributes:

The successful candidate is required to have the following attributes:

  • A qualified Rural Surveyor, MRICS, with up to 2 years post qualification experience in Rural Estate Management
  • Ideally CAAV qualified
  • Professional approach to all aspects of work with high standards of presentation and excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Adaptable, with strong negotiation skills to ensure positive outcomes
  • Good people skills and diplomacy are essential
  • High levels of IT skills in Microsoft Office, Outlook and Mapping Systems
  • Good understanding and practical experience of Health and Safety requirements
  • Flexible, enthusiastic and positive approach to all areas of work and a commitment to exceed expectations
  • Independence, confidence, initiative and the ability to take responsibility
