Wales to start 2009 Tir Mynydd payments next week

The Welsh Assembly will commence making 2009 Tir Mynydd (the Welsh equivalent of the Hill Farm Allowance Scheme in England) payments next week. The Minister for Rural Affairs, Elin Jones, has also indicated that an announcement will be forthcoming soon with regard to the future of support in the Less Favoured Area following the review of Axis 2 agri-environment schemes. Wales makes SPS 2009 payments to more than 80 per cent of farmers

Wales confirms no National Envelope to apply to Single Payment Scheme

Rural Affairs Minister Elin Jones has announced that there will be no application of a National Envelope to the Single Payment Scheme (SPS) in Wales. Wales broadens eligibility criteria for New Entrants Support Scheme

The Welsh Assembly Government (WAG) has confirmed that it is broadening the eligibility criteria for entry into its forthcoming Young Entrants Support Scheme (YESS) so that it will now be open to farmers who have set up as head of holding for the first time in the 12 month period prior to them submitting their YESS application. Wales announces badger cull to form part of TB eradication programme

Welsh Rural Affairs Minister, Elin Jones, has today announced the next steps to be taken with the Welsh TB eradication programme. A badger cull is to be carried out within an Intensive Action Pilot Area (IAPA) which is to be located within Dyfed, with North Pembrokeshire being the preferred location. Wales announces £13.3 million for new flood defence measures
