The estate business comprises property portfolio management and development, buildings heritage preservation, farming and forestry, nature and wildlife conservation, hospitality and events. As a result, it is now ready for carefully considered development and diversification.

Property Portfolio:

The property portfolio is predominantly residential but also includes a range of commercial and land assets.

They are mostly located within rural and village settings at Woodhall Estate, with a selection in London. Most property matters are managed by our in-house professional team, based in the Estate Office at Woodhall Park. The Buildings Department manages all maintenance and projects for the properties, using contractors as necessary.

The diversity of holdings within the portfolio offers long and short-term occupation opportunities, including homes, workplaces, education, healthcare, food production, public services, recreation and sporting.

These contribute to our vibrant community and rural economy. Furthermore, there are significant development and renewable energy opportunities yet to be realised.

More specifically:

  • Over 200 properties and 250 tenancies, with a mix of residential and commercial.
  • Heath Mount School (grade 1 listed building and campus requiring an active L&T relationship and school development oversight).
  • Tenanted land including agricultural leases and licences
  • Telecoms and utility licences, wayleaves and easements
  • Historic structures and infrastructure maintenance, e.g. park walls, roads, bridges, walled gardens, weirs, railings, security etc
  • Development opportunities including:
    • Approx. 150,000 sqft of under-utilised farm buildings
    • Village infill opportunities
    • Greenfield opportunities
    • Renewable energy opportunities

Additionally, the property portfolio includes property in London as follows:

  • Mayfair embassy
  • Mayfair offices, flats and shop
  • Watford high street retail premises
  • 8 residential properties in Kensington/Battersea area

The Role:

The Head of Property will be a key member of the senior management team, working closely with the ambitious Managing Partner, and leading the property function. You will develop the Master Plan, and once agreed, you will be responsible for its achievement. Integral to this is the complete review of the property portfolio, its composition and future direction, as well as the introduction of commercially viable renewable initiatives. The current assets are both residential and commercial, with many properties underutilized and various development opportunities. All the time you will be guided by the Estates 3 core values of Community, Conservation and Sustainability. You will work with colleagues to ensure the buildings are utilized in the most commercially suitable, sympathetic and sustainable way to ensure the Estate is best positioned for the opportunities that lie ahead for this and future generations.

The Person:

  • The successful candidate must be a suitably qualified property professional, who will likely be a MRICS chartered surveyor, with a minimum of 10 years PQE and a track record of achievement in a leading, relevant, property management and development environment.
  • You must be ambitious, proactive and self-motivated, and be able to identify and present new initiatives; and see multiple projects of various sizes from concept through to completion.
  • You will need the twin skills of big picture and attention to detail, whilst all the time adhering to the ethos of a forward thinking, multi-generational estate operating to the highest standards and principles.
  • You will be financially and commercially astute, an excellent communicator and ambassador, leading by example and working with colleagues across the Estate, and consultants and contractors externally.
