The Brocklesby Estate - Lincolnshire - Assistant Agent
We are looking for a bright, forward-thinking, commercially astute rural surveyor (RICS qualified) preferably 1-3 years+ PQE, to join this large, progressive-yet traditional-rural Estate.
It is an extremely varied role and the wide range of professional work reflects the diversity of interests and activities. You would be assisting in the management of all aspects, chiefly existing assets on a day-to-day basis, but will also be able to identify and become involved in new opportunities and one-off project work.
We-and you-require energy and attention to detail, and a “savvy”/ “eyes open” approach to your work in general, and the fabric and condition of the Estate in particular.
Brocklesby is a 27,000 acre diversified rural Estate in northern Lincolnshire, on the edge of the Wolds, and is the residence of the Earl & Countess of Yarborough. In addition to in-hand farming, let farms, property, renewables, forestry and sporting, there are interests in urban and London commercial and residential property, development land, minerals, and investment portfolios. It is very much a private family Estate and we are not visitor or events -focussed.
The current incumbent of four years is being promoted to focus more specifically on the property side, and we now seek a well-qualified land agent to assist and become involved in all aspects of the Estate.
Working closely with the managing director, your main working relationships would be with your predecessor, the planning & development surveyor, farm manager, finance director, administration staff and other heads of department.
The ‘nuts & bolts’ of the position are such that a detailed list or job description is hard to put together, as the scope of the work is-as you’d expect-so wide-ranging, encompassing most of the subject areas encountered in rural estate management. We would explore these further at the interview stage. The key thing is your approach. Our thinking encompasses profitability, sustainability, stewardship, and progress. You would need to be - or become - a flexible, non-bureaucratic and entrepreneurial asset manager, with good analytical, negotiation, people and communication skills.
Equally you will be willing to recognise gaps in your knowledge and to fill them. Adept at keeping an eye on costs as well as increasing income or adding and creating capital value, you will also develop a knowledge and interest in taxation, and how it affects our businesses and decision-making.
The attractive total reward package offered will reflect the chosen candidate’s abilities and potential, and their flexible approach to the role and duties, and hours worked.
