Situated on the eastern edge of Shrewsbury the Sundorne Castle Estate is the home of the de Quincey family and has been since the 18th Century. The Family can trace their ancestors back to 1066 and are mentioned in the Domesday Book.
The Estate provides homes for three generations of the Family and comprises 2500 acres of prime agricultural arable and root crop land, mostly farmed by contractors under the Estate’s direction, along with a number of farm tenancies. There are presently 60 residential properties, 15 commercial lettings, Haughmond Lodge a recently created exquisite events and entertaining venue and a range of significant short, medium and long term development opportunities. These include the conversion of farmsteads, new housing, and significant potential infrastructure developments. It also includes the potential restoration (part) of Sundorne Castle itself (unoccupied) and its environs. There is a modest family shoot along with commercial forestry and public access. Until May 2018, the Estate was managed by an external firm of land agents and since then, by a Resident Estate Manager, appointed by the Trustees. This change was introduced to underpin the support for the Family, as well as accelerate the realisation of the inherent potential of the Estate. The Estate Manager is supported by and reports to, the Trustees and will oversee the Estate staff.
The vision is to develop and create a thriving rural business that prospers and flourishes for the longer-term benefit of the Family and the wider community, with a strong desire to be dynamic and active in the region. The Estate is financially secure.
The successful candidate will have the ability to make a real and manifest difference economically, socially and environmentally in the area and to provide broad support to the de Quincey family. Working closely with the Trustees and the Family, the Estate Manager will bring ambition and energy, with the real potential to further develop a mix of enterprises.
