SSE - Northern Scotland - Land Consents Manager

Base Location: Aberdeenshire, Argyll & Bute, Dundee & Angus, Highlands & Islands, Moray, Perthshire.

Salary: Up to £48,648 depending on skills and experience + car allowance + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

What is the Role?

Working to secure, maintain and manage strategic land and property rights across a portfolio of projects for our electricity distribution network in order to support a net carbon zero future.

We’re investing in our infrastructure assets which are spread far and wide across our licenced area in the North of Scotland and Island groups, to accelerate progress towards a net zero world whilst ensuring a safe, resilient, and responsive network. In this role you’ll be responsible for securing consents for the construction, installation, refurbishment and replacement of underground cables, overhead lines and plant on both public and privately-owned land.

Your key responsibilities will include:

- Devising land consents strategies to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget and sustainably as well as managing risk to future network security

- Managing preparation, negotiation and successful acquisition of wayleaves, servitudes, land purchases, lease agreements and access permissions

- Assessment, negotiation and successful settlement of compensation claims.

- Engaging with internal and external stakeholders to develop and foster positive working relationships

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, you will ideally have:

- Substantial experience securing both voluntary and statutory consents for capital projects, preferably for electricity apparatus across all voltages.

- A strong background of working with key stakeholders, such as landowners, tenants, and their agents, local authorities, the Scottish Government Energy Consents Unit/Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy (BEIS).

- Strong knowledge of the relevant sections of the Electricity Act 1989 and relevant environmental legislation

- Good understanding of energy networks and their structure and governance

- Excellent negotiation and influencing skills

- A full, current driving licence

- Ideally qualified to degree level in a relevant discipline and/or with sufficient pertinent industry experience and preferably hold a membership of the Rural Professional Group of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors or the Central Association for Agricultural Valuers or be willing to work towards the same
