Salary £35,000 - 39,500 pro rata – by negotiation, depending on experience + pension contribution & holiday allowance

Job Description

The job will entail managing a diverse rural estate in the Ashdown Forest. The estate includes a historic main house, a handful of let residential properties both on-site and in the surrounding area, traditional agricultural buildings, gardens, grounds, 65 acres of permanent grassland under environmental stewardship, and 240 acres of woodland.

The estate has been owned by the same family for generations, and the current family live on-site and have an active interest in the day-to-day running of the estate and a strong ethos for environmental protection and sympathetic methods of land management.

Specific tasks required for the role include:

  • Managing the portfolio of residential let property
  • Managing the in-hand farmland and woodland
  • Managing the land under Environmental Stewardship
  • Strategic estate planning and implementation
  • Financial administration including preparation of budgets and cashflows
  • General estate and property administration
  • Preparing property surveys and schedules of works
  • Overseeing all aspects of property maintenance and repair
  • Managing staff and contractors and daily work schedules
  • Procuring materials and services
  • Overseeing and implementing health & safety measures
  • Pursuing development opportunities
  • Liaising with the estate owners and their consultants
  • Be available 24/7 in the case of emergencies

Person specification:

The successful candidate must

  • Have excellent managerial experience
  • Computer literate and competent in the use of MS word and excel
  • Have demonstrable knowledge and skills to undertake, instruct, and oversee all aspects of property and land management and general building & maintenance work
  • A full driver’s license

A desirable, additional attribute would be if the candidate is able and willing to help with manual tasks when required, though this is not essential.
