CLA - London based - Senior Policy Adviser – Environment and land use

Salary 47K to 51K depending on experience

This is an exciting time to be at the heart of environmental land use policy as the Environment Act legislation comes into effect and new agricultural policy is implemented.

The CLA is looking for a Senior Land Use Policy Adviser to join our professional policy team in London to lead on environmental policy related to land use. The focus will be on policy development and advice to members on high profile issues such as natural capital, biodiversity net gain, local nature recovery strategies, protected sites, species reintroduction and more.

Reporting to the Chief Land Use Policy Adviser this is a key role in the CLA’s policy and advice team. It is a varied and stimulating role that will suit someone with both policy development and advisory experience, and a good understanding of the landowner perspective.

The CLA is a dynamic and forward thinking membership organisation for owners of rural land, property and businesses, who have been championing the interests of rural England and Wales for more than 100 years. CLA members own or manage around half the rural land in England and Wales and more than 250 different types of businesses.

The successful candidate, educated to degree level, will demonstrate:

  • A breath of knowledge across environmental policy relevant to land use, with expert knowledge of nature conservation and natural capital.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience of evidence-based policy development.
  • Initiative, motivation and flexibility to deliver the right outcomes for CLA members.
  • High level communications skills.
  • An understanding on the key issues affecting rural land managers and businesses.
