Job description:

Witherslack Estate is a diverse rural estate located in south Cumbria within the Lake District National Park. The Estate extends to around 2,000 acres and includes 900 acres of semi-natural ancient woodlands, let farms, restored traditional fruit orchards and 45 modern or traditional houses. There are also a number of commercial assets on the Estate, including a school, a holiday house, an equestrian centre, a campsite, a commercial woodyard and sawmill, and converted buildings let as commercial workspaces. Conservation and sustainability with social and economic inclusivity are the guiding principles of the Estate. The applicant will have a strong interest in these priorities and be keen to help and guide the Estate in successfully achieving them.

The Estate is looking for a managing Land Agent/Consultant to provide advice and carry out all aspects of traditional rural estate management. Key roles will include management of rental properties, small scale building projects, relationship with the RPA, strategic planning, environmental stewardship, landlord and tenant work and Health & Safety across the Estate.  The successful candidate will have a close relationship with the Stanley family and form a management team in the office with the two co-ordinators and accounts assistant as well as working closely with other professional advisors.

The Estate employs six full time in the Woodlands and a Housekeeper, as well as the office-based staff and a wide range of part-time or self employed specialists. Good relations with all of these are a major part of the job.

The successful candidate will be RICS qualified with a proven track record in rural estate management. A flexible working approach will be required for this role as well as the essential communication skills.

The annual consultancy fee is to be negotiated, however the equivalent of two working days per week contact time on the Estate is expected, for which accommodation is available.
