Full time 37.5 hours

The Bathurst Estate at Cirencester in Gloucestershire is offering a rare and exciting opportunity to join its dedicated and dynamic management team.    With a mixed and diverse 14,000-acre family estate we can offer a highly desirable mixed workload in the outstanding natural environment of the Cotswolds. You would be joining the Estate’s existing in-house management team working from the Estate Office in the heart of Cirencester.

Residential properties range from period farmhouses and cottages through to townhouses and flats; commercial properties range from a variety of office premises to retail and storage units; and agricultural units from whole farms down to individual grazing paddocks. The Bathurst Estate takes pride in acting as a professional landlord and encourages a positive working relationship with its tenants and customers.   It is looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable individual to join its team.

The Rural Surveyor will be a key member of the Estate Management Team and will be primarily required to assist with the management of the extensive let property portfolio whilst also turning their hand to the wide range of work thrown up by a diverse estate.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing management of a substantial portfolio of let residential agricultural and commercial property, including new lettings, rent reviews, lease renewals and general Landlord and Tenant practice.
  • Working as part of a wider team to support the efficient management of the Estate
  • To assist with the co-ordination of leisure activities and events
  • Providing timely and accurate reporting to line managers.

  • Commercially aware, but with the ability to vary approach dependent on circumstances
  • Dynamic ability to think laterally and approach challenges positively and proactively
  • Strong people skills both in a team environment but also individually with tenants
  • Energetic, tenacious and hands-on with strong attention to detail. Committed team player with excellent oral, written, organisational and numeracy skills, along with a natural flair for diplomacy and common sense
  • Cost management: financial and commercial acumen with strong planning, budgeting and reporting skills
  • The successful candidate must be, enthusiastic and proactive, with good IT skills including use of Microsoft Office.   Experience with digital mapping of benefit as well (the Estate operates PEAR Mapping)
  • A clean driving licence and use of your own car is essential

Technical Experience

  • Strong understanding of landlord and tenant law and practice, and property compliance
  • Knowledge of buildings and the built environment
  • MRICS qualification is highly desirable, but not essential if equivalent relevant experience demonstrated.
  • Support will be given to the assessment and membership of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV) if not already qualified.
