Job Title: Assistant Rural Estate Manager

Division/Department: REP/Rural/Management

Grade: Associate or Staff level depending on skills and experience

Working Hours: Full or Part Time Maternity Cover

Reports to: Senior Estate Manager

This document sets out the primary duties and responsibilities of the above position.

The duties and responsibilities described below are not intended to be exhaustive.

The Role

To play an active role in fulfilling the broad range of management duties on behalf of an interesting portfolio of private and institutional clients. The role will involve working as part of a team and provides opportunity to become involved in a wide variety of work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Providing management of a substantial portfolio of let residential agricultural and commercial property, including instigating/negotiating rent reviews, lease renewals and other landlord and tenant practice.
  • Working as part of a wider team to support the efficient delivery of the requirements of estate management in relation to property letting, property compliance and the financial management of the Estate.
  • Providing timely and accurate reporting to the Client and Managing Agent.
  • Financial management working closely with the client accounting team in preparing budgets and managing cash flow and expenditure.
  • Client reporting with support from the Senior Estate Manager as required and ensuring that a high level of service is delivered to clients

Skills, Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications

Key Skills

  • A self-starting, creative problem solver with a desire to find solutions.
  • Commercially aware, but with the ability to vary approach dependent on circumstances
  • Dynamic, ability to think laterally and approach challenges positively and proactively
  • Strong people skills with the ability to work effectively as part of the team

Technical Experience

  • Strong understanding of landlord and tenant law and practice, and property compliance
  • Sound knowledge of the rural environment and rural estates, including the challenges and opportunities facing rural landowners
  • Knowledge of buildings and the built environment
  • MRICS and FAAV both highly desirable, but not essential if equivalent relevant experience demonstrated.

Important Skills and Knowledge

  • Cost management: financial and commercial acumen with strong planning, budgeting and reporting skills
  • Clear written and verbal communication style, including the ability to communicate at all levels
  • Strong people skills with the ability to work effectively as part of the team
