Job description:

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, qualified, financially and commercially astute rural surveyor to take a leading role within the Rural Estate Management business in the South West.

The position will involve spending 3 days a week as Estate Manager at the Castle Hill Estate near South Molton, with the remaining 2 days spent working with a variety of Estate Management clients, from the Exeter or Taunton office.

Castle Hill is a historic, privately owned diverse estate of c5,100 acres, comprising a Palladian mansion house with parkland and gardens (which support a series of events throughout the year), 11 let farms (including Home Farm, a c1,200 acre dairy unit currently let to Velcourt Limited under a Farm Business Tenancy), 65 let residential properties, 20 commercial and industrial units, two let shoots, 1,200 acres of commercial woodland (managed in conjunction with Peter Topham of Savills’ Taunton Office) and a variety of other property interests.

Castle Hill is going through a considerable period of investment and diversification and this is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, forward thinking, commercially minded and entrepreneurial individual to help drive the Estate forwards, working closely with the family.

The Estate has recently taken the opportunity to invest in the development of further industrial and commercial space, is in discussions over a potential new service station (with associated businesses) and further extensive tourism opportunities (including leisure facilities and activities) across the estate. The candidate will be responsible for delivering planned strategic growth across all areas of activity. The changes in Agriculture as a consequence of both Brexit and opportunities that arise through environmental opportunities will be key. The candidate will work closely with the family to shape how a large proportion of the land is farmed and tenanted in the future.

You will be responsible for driving forward these opportunities with the family (working with external consultants as required), seeking out new development opportunities for the future and for managing all aspects of the Estate (including the management and oversight of the Estate's financial performance and all day to day operations), with support from 12 Estate employees.

The remainder of this role involves the provision of a variety of Estate Management and related Professional Services for predominantly private clients, as well as potential Asset Management on behalf of Corporate and Institutional clients marrying in with the qualities required at Castle Hill.

The selected candidate will report directly to the clients (and will need to be able to work independently, with support from the relevant Directors), and will have responsibility for all relevant management matters, to include lease renewals, rent reviews, financial management (to include budgeting, cash flows etc.), consultancy advice, planning, development and seeking out new diversification opportunities.

This role offers considerable opportunity for the candidate to progress their career with a range of progressive clients, looking not only at opportunities within their existing portfolios, but also their opportunities for further investment into a wide range of new ventures.

Savills offer unique training opportunities throughout your career, from a comprehensive business management programme to management training.

The Exeter or Taunton Office is a large multi-disciplinary business with regional significance, with a large Rural Energy and Projects team of more than 20 between Exeter and Taunton (who work jointly).
