The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Surveyor to join the Ramsbury Estate. The role will support the Senior Estate Management team in all aspects of the smooth running of this large mixed rural estate. The successful applicant will have a well-rounded knowledge and interest in agricultural, residential and commercial property, with excellent communication skills and the ability to work well as part of the team.

The Estate

The Ramsbury Estate, comprises approximately 19,000 acres across North East Wiltshire, West Berkshire and North Hampshire of which some 7,000 acres are farmed in-hand, 2,500 acres are woodland, and the rest is let on numerous farm tenancies. The residential property portfolio comprises over 110 houses and our mixed commercial portfolio includes the estate pub, The Ramsbury Brewery & Distillery, a photography studio, a children’s nursery, and many more.

What you'll be doing

As part of this team, you will be based at the Estate Offices near Ramsbury and will be supporting the senior managers to provide insightful advice, excellent client care and outstanding stakeholder management to help deliver best practice across our property portfolio. You will be involved in delivering a range of work including management of agricultural, residential and commercial tenancies; assisting with the property maintenance program, assisting with planning applications; grant applications and claims; woodland management; licences and easements; access rights; and occasional acquisitions and disposals.


The successful candidate will have the following attributes:

  • Be recently qualified MRICS, or with up to 3 years post qualification experience in the rural sector. Fellowship of the CAAV is advantageous but not essential
  • Have a practical knowledge and experience of rural land and property management, with a detailed understanding of all types of residential, commercial and agricultural tenancies
  • Have a good working knowledge of legislation and policy affecting rural land and property management
  • Have good organisational and technical skills to provide efficient and effective support to the management team
  • Be a team player with good interpersonal skills and act with integrity and professionalism in all that they do
  • Have a full clean UK drivers licence due to this role requiring regular travel often at short notice across the estate
