Location:

Job description:

In 2016 the Lochaber Smelter, Kinlochleven Power Station and all associated infrastructure was purchased by the GFG Alliance (www.gfgalliance.com) from Rio Tinto including the Highland Estates of Glenshero, Killiechonate and Mamore now collectively known as JAHAMA Highland Estates (www.jahamahighlandestates.com).  GFG Alliance is an international business group combining renewable energy generation, metal manufacturing, engineering, mining, banking and property.

JAHAMA Highland Estates cover 114,000 acres around Fort William, Kinlochleven and Laggan providing the catchment for the hydropower schemes at Fort William and Kinlochleven.  JAHAMA Highland Estates combine sustainable energy generation with traditional sporting activities as well as property (residential/commercial/infrastructure) agriculture, forestry, leisure and access and multi-faceted wider community benefit.  A host of further new opportunities exist.

Located in the adventure capital of Scotland there is now a unique opportunity to play a key role in the creation and development of an exemplar estate providing a sustainable model of life and work in the Scottish Highlands with the success of the Estate offering immense benefits to the wider communities.

We are seeking a naturally energetic and a “hands on” Chief Operating Officer with the ability to quickly grasp the dynamics of the Estates and to prioritise and crystallise the current and future opportunities.  Highly visible to staff, managers in associated enterprises and the wider community.  They will be completely immersed in the Estates.  Well developed business acumen is fundamental.  Ideally but not essentially educated to degree level they do not need a formal land or estate management qualification, but it would be preferable.  Candidates need to be resilient and genuinely caring for the Estates, staff and wider community.

The Chief Operating Officer must be able;

  • To develop, implement and drive the operational activities
  • To manage the internal budgets, forecasts and reporting
  • To maintain a collaborative working relationship with the smelter and hydro management
  • To build a strong team who can deliver the Estates vision and strategy understanding the incremental steps required for successful delivery
  • To constantly look to improve the performance culture and ensure that as the activities grow focus remains on delivery and results
  • They will require a practical hands on approach with the ability to relate well to all stakeholders within GFG and JAHAMA Highland Estates and the wider community.  They will be expected to take full control of the business including all financial aspects and to achieve and maintain the confidence of a loyal workforce with the minimum of supervision once policy has been agreed
  • Balance the day-to-day running of the Estates with all the other priorities

A compensation package including salary and housing commensurate with experience is available.

An extensive and detailed brief is available for applicants.
