Gascoyne Estates

Hertfordshire or Dorset

Job description:

An exciting opportunity has arisen to take on a pivotal role in the management of the Gascoyne Estates' rural land portfolio in both Dorset and Hertfordshire. The role, based in either Hertfordshire or Dorset, covers a combined total of over 16,000 acres and encompasses all aspects of a let agricultural portfolio as well as substantial in-hand farming operations, conservation initiatives, woodland management and sporting interests. The successful candidate will not only be responsible for ensuring that the rural portfolio is an exemplar for responsible rural land management but will also be expected to make a valued contribution to the wider team across the Gasgoyne Estates.

  • Lead and develop the Estates’ relationships with its agricultural tenants, alongside managing all in-hand farming operations, both contract and other farming structures.
  • Devise and deliver the Estates’ approach to measuring and recording its ‘natural capital’ in concert with managing the existing, and seeking out new, environmental stewardship schemes and associated capital grants.
  • Manage the Estates’ forestry operations and policy, plus run the in-hand shoots and oversee the let shooting rights and deer control/management.
  • Provide the Estates’ senior leadership with a full spectrum of in-house professional rural land management advice and ensure that the rural land portfolio plays a significant role within the Estates’ wider business strategy.

  • A driven individual who is keen to make an impact and has the enthusiasm and self-discipline to work relatively independently, but who also enjoys being part of a wider recognisable, multi-faceted organisation.
  • A strong communicator who is aware of their role’s pivotal position in ensuring constructive relationships and influencing the Estates’ reputation, both within immediate local communities and beyond.
  • A qualified and proven rural land management professional who is commercially adept, open-minded over the future development of UK agriculture, and interested in enhancing land management conservation practices.
