Housing and energy markets are in the process of great change as we enter a low carbon economy. Delivery of sufficient opportunities in the short term that are both profitable and sustainable will be the key challenge of this role.

You will be joining a small but growing team in the Yorkshire office, gaining wide experience off all aspects of the development process.


The job holder will be responsible for securing high quality development sites across the Yorkshire region and beyond. Alongside new residential lead property projects you will be tasked with the delivery of new energy projects, with a focus on solar energy parks in the short term. You will take responsibility to bring these projects through the development system (with focus on securing key land agreements) with the full support of the Banks team and the appropriate external consultants. 


  1. To identify new residential led property development projects in line with current Property Business Plan across the Yorkshire and Midlands regions.
  2. To identify new solar park opportunities for Banks Renewables Limited (BRL) across England, with a specific focus across Yorkshire, the Midlands and Lincolnshire which fulfil the requirements of the company as set out in the Renewables Business Plan or by the Renewables Board from time to time.
  3. To provide support to the Senior Land Manager and the wider team in their efforts to develop a successful business plan and to provide specific help within estates and business development areas.
  4. Sites should be identified pre-planning and wherever possible avoid competition.
  5. Prepare the initial development concept, identify and approach landowners and agree site and individual negotiating strategies with the Senior Land Manager.
  6. Agree and review the site finding strategy and requirements with the Senior Land Manager and wider team on a regular basis.
  7. Requirement to negotiate land agreements on behalf of the company, however all efforts must be agreed with the Senior Land Manager and always be subject to the approval of the Board.
  8. Prepare financial appraisals for use at key development stages.
  9. On occasion, be required to represent the Company at liaison meetings and landowner meetings etc., out with normal working hours.
  10. Work with the wider team members to achieve both individual and the Company’s Key Financial and Non-Financial targets.


  1. Achievement of a portfolio of property and renewable energy sites which are located out with significant technical  constraints and with good planning prospects
  2. Delivery of prospect and project milestones on time
  3. Commercial value of project is maximised at all times
  4. All new sites have a clear, understood deliverable strategy
  5. Sufficient resources are made available to projects to avoid delay or reduction in quality.


The role will report directly to the Senior Land Manager.  Almost daily liaison with key members of the Banks Property Ltd and Banks Renewables Ltd team, specifically to ensure all land goals are progressed to deliver targeted key review stages and milestones. The role will require regular community liaison with a broad range of external stakeholders such as landowners and agents, legal advisors, consultants and local authorities.


The role will be based at the Banks office in Yorkshire with visits to the Banks Head Office in Meadowfield, Durham required. Extensive travel will be required across Yorkshire and potentially Northern England. A company car will be provided following the initial allocation of a fleet car, if the annual mileage exceeds (or is likely to) 10,000 miles p/a. A car allowance shall be made if this is not the case.


  • Three to five years’ experience in site finding or property related negotiations, with good knowledge of development and land use planning
  • Confident and experienced negotiator
  • Property and/or Renewables experience preferred
  • Relevant professional qualifications e.g. RICS
  • Educated to Degree level
  • Clean full driving licence
  •  Experience in using appropriate IT tools to deliver efficiency and functionality
