Job description:

Reporting to the TFA’s Chief Executive, the successful candidate will be expected to advise members on a wide range of issues including all agricultural tenancy matters, agricultural policy, the Basic Payment Scheme, agri-environment schemes, planning, rural development and also have an input into the TFA’s policy development work.   The post will involve some travel throughout Great Britain, mainly in England and Wales.

An affinity with the agricultural industry and a demonstrable ability to work flexibly in a small team, often independently, will also be requirements for the role.  The successful candidate must have some understanding of the landlord/tenant system in agriculture in England and Wales and there will be opportunities to attend appropriate training courses to enhance this knowledge.

The successful candidate will be involved in the following tasks:

  • Providing advice, information and support to members of the Association who will     make contact with TFA Head Office through a variety of means including by telephone, post,    email and in face to face meetings.
  • Producing and updating advisory publications for Association members including Guidance Notes, Briefing Notes and contributing to regular TFA Newsletters.
  • Keeping the Association's staff and officers informed of major issues and problems being reported by members.
  • Providing an input to the Association's policy and advocacy work.
  •  Liaising with the Association's regional panels of Recommended Professionals (Chartered Surveyors, Solicitors and Accountants in private practice).
  •  Administering the Association’s Rent Databank including data gathering, recording, processing, dissemination and presentation.
  •  Speaking at meetings arranged by the Association and at meetings arranged by other bodies.
  • Representing the TFA in meetings and discussions with outside bodies including Government Departments and Agencies.
  •  Assisting with the TFA’s Commercial Legal Protection Insurance including advising members and others on the cover available and assisting with claims.
