Job description:

An exciting opportunity to take on a pivotal role on an estate with the ambition and capacity to develop its portfolio of rural enterprises.  The initial focus will be on continuing to optimise existing arable and livestock operations, alongside assisting with the management of over 1,000 acres of woodland.  Longer term, the estate’s location, combined with its residential and commercial property assets, present clear opportunities for further business growth.

THE POSITION

  • Provide leadership and day-to-day management of the farming and woodland teams, including managing a contract farming agreement on a neighbouring estate.  Ensure rigour in management controls and financial reporting.
  • Work closely with the estate’s owners to identify, structure and deliver property and consumer-based opportunities that capitalise on the estate’s asset base and are in keeping with the owners’ vision.
  • Maintain constructive relationships with the estate’s key external advisers and stakeholders, and act as an ambassador within the local community to sustain and augment existing relationships.

THE CANDIDATE

  • An entrepreneurial mindset matched by a thorough grounding in the theory and practice of managing arable and livestock operations, and preferably experience of woodland management.
  • An appetite to develop professionally, together with the determination, pragmatism, and diplomacy necessary to deliver long term projects.
  • Highly personable with the ability to engage with a range of individuals and the leadership skills necessary to galvanise teams of diverse experience.  A strong empathy with the countryside and the rural way of life.
