Background

The Fitzwilliam Malton Estate (www.maltonestate.co.uk) is an important and high profile part of the wider property holdings of the Fitzwilliam Estates and has been in the family’s continuous ownership since 1713. The Fitzwilliam Estates portfolio comprises a variety of holdings in both North and South Yorkshire, Cambridgeshire and North Wales.

The Fitzwilliam Malton Estate owns a sizeable proportion of the commercial property in the town centre, with significant blocks of unbroken freehold, and is in a strong position to influence the future of Malton as a vibrant market town serving the local community, businesses and visitors.

Malton has been dubbed Yorkshire’s Food Capital and the Estate has been instrumental in many of the initiatives aimed at rejuvenating the town’s economy. The Estate is being successful in attracting independent traders and new businesses, with an emphasis on the production and sale of high quality food and drink, as well as other artisan producers.

The portfolio includes over 250 commercial lettings, 150 residential properties, 1,000 acres of urban fringe agricultural land and a 26-bedroom hotel and wedding venue.

Requirement

The Estate wishes to appoint an Assistant Estate Manager to manage the portfolio of commercial, residential and agricultural property. The role involves reporting to the Estate Manager and working closely with the 10-strong property team based in Malton. Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Estate management of the property portfolio
  • Leading the Estate’s property marketing
  • Line management and development of property team members as appropriate
  • Negotiating new lettings, rent reviews and lease renewals
  • Identifying development opportunities
  • Reviewing investment opportunities
  • Exploring opportunities for new business generation
  • Covenant release/modification negotiations
  • Leasehold enfranchisement negotiations

Duties may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the post or the level of responsibility entailed.

The Candidate

The successful candidate is likely to be a qualified chartered surveyor with 3-5 years’ experience in the UK property market and a strong working knowledge of legislation relating to commercial property. They will have a proven ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships. It is expected that the successful candidate will possess:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • An excellent approach to customer care
  • The ability to prioritise and co-ordinate tasks efficiently ensuring all deadlines are met
  • A positive attitude towards routine tasks
  • The flexibility to work both autonomously and as part of a wider team
  • The ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • A good working knowledge of MS Office and the ability to learn new IT systems
  • Accurate and exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication and strong numerical skills
  • Full UK driving licence

Remuneration

Dependent upon qualifications and experience. 28 days holiday including public holidays
