Ashley Madden

Ashley works for the National Trust, a UK conservation charity protecting historic places and the countryside.

Following university, where I completed a BSc in Building Surveying and a Rural Land Management Masters, I worked for Strutt and Parker for a year before moving to Moore Allen and Innocent Cirencester where I completed my APC and gained experience with a wide range of farming and landowning clients, particularly focusing on planning and valuation, working both for Landlords and Tenants. In 2013 I then joined the National Trust as a Rural Surveyor, looking after a hugely varied rural property portfolio covering Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Oxfordshire.

My current role as a Rural Research and Development Surveyor offers amazing opportunities to work with the National Trusts Estate Managers and Rural Surveyors nationwide across truly spectacular landscapes, ensuring colleagues remain up to date with the most recent legislation and guidance, as well as to work on national land management projects and look for new methods to improve the management of the Trust’s rural estate. I also undertake the recruitment for Assistant Rural Surveyors at the Trust and sit on a board ensuring they receive the training and development to become chartered surveyors.

The best part about having a career in rural estate management is that it offers a new challenge every day, you never know what might come across your desk and what new challenges your client might throw at you.
