The CAAV has published an annual Guide to Costings for agricultural operations since at least 1945. It analyses the costs to the farmer of an operation and so will be different from contractors’ rates. It is expressly recognised by the Inland Revenue’s BEN 19 as a basis for establishing actual costs of production for stocktaking. Equally, these figures are referred to in many agreements, including those for the sale of agricultural property and are used for end of tenancy calculations.
Each September, the CAAV publishes the summary Guide (available to anyone) and the detailed working papers that show the construction of the figures and so assist their adaptation to the circumstances of the farm in question (available only to members, subscription service now available).
